My Australia ETA 601 was not granted: what should I do?
An ETA 601 outcome does not automatically tell you which visa you should apply for next. Do not assume that repeatedly submitting the same ETA request will change the result, and do not assume that a Visitor 600 grant is automatic.
Read the official message or decision notice carefully. It is the record for your application. If the Australian ETA app indicates that you cannot complete an ETA application, Home Affairs says you may apply through ImmiAccount for another visa that suits your needs.
ETA 601 refused, unsuccessful or unable to apply: first checks
- Confirm the passport, travel purpose and personal details you entered are accurate.
- Keep the official message or decision notice; do not rely on screenshots from social media or an agent's interpretation.
- Check the ETA 601 official page and use Home Affairs' official visa options to identify a pathway that fits your own circumstances.
- If a Visitor 600 Tourist stream is appropriate, read its official eligibility and document guidance before lodging.
Is Visitor 600 the correct next step after an ETA 601 problem?
It may be a relevant visitor-visa option in some circumstances, but it is not an automatic replacement for every ETA issue. The Visitor 600 Tourist stream is for applicants who intend to visit temporarily for tourism, a cruise, or family and friends, and who meet that stream's requirements.
Home Affairs assesses whether an applicant is a genuine visitor and has enough money for the stay and departure. The Department may also require evidence about the applicant's circumstances. Read our Visitor 600 guide and 601 versus 600 comparison, then verify the current official pages before you apply.
Evidence matters more than workaround claims
Do not use made-up explanations, altered documents or promises of a particular outcome. For the Tourist stream, Home Affairs lists evidence such as a current passport, evidence of funds, travel plans and proof of reasons to return home, depending on the circumstances.
For a detailed explanation of visitor-visa funds evidence, see our bank statement guide. It deliberately does not use a fake universal RM threshold.
When the situation is not straightforward
If the official notice raises a matter you do not understand, use official Home Affairs information or obtain advice from a person authorised to give Australian immigration assistance. A website cannot determine eligibility or guarantee a grant.
